Having laid such a foundation, we shall examine more closely the causes of the
present confusion in our financial system.
Almost everywhere throughout Europe the monetary system rests on such fraudulent and artificial foundations that it causes a greater or lesser uncertainty in the value of commodities and to the same extent inhibits enterprise in the world of commerce.
Such confusion infallibly stems from a certain kind of governmental self-interest, which has then been adopted everywhere and has in recent times been regarded as one of the most secret maxims of state by means of which either rulers or certain individuals in the state have sought to gain possession of the property of their fellow men.
The artful measures of one state in this respect have served as a model for others, and things have already gone so far in this regard that one has begun to regard them as indispensable for the very existence of the state.
